Winter Paleo Challenge
So it begins… again!
Deadlift 365. Pathetic. Just wasn’t able to lift heavy today. At least that means I will show a lot of improvement in a month if I can get my 1RM back to normal range.
MetCon. 21, 15, 9 reps for time: MB Front squats, 20lbs Burpees 4:10 Very slow but leaves a lot of room for improvement.

Ben Smith is a Beast! →
He’s recently overhead squatted 360 lbs., split jerked 340 lbs., done 76 consecutive pull-ups, 20 consecutive ring muscle-ups, and run 800m in 2:16. This throwback athlete may yet be the face of CrossFit’s future.

Workout 2011.01.28
Cash Out 3 rounds for time of: 400m Row 30 GHD Sit-ups 20 Overhead Walking Lunges, 45lbs
13:06 This was a terrible idea. :)
Did a lot of mobility work today:
shoulder distractions
foam rolled on the calfs (reefing?)
rolled the bottoms of my feet, adductors and quads with the barbell.
lax ball in the upper back & 1st rib.

Perfection Is Not Reality →
“But I’m really interested in the person who made a lot of mistakes and learned from them and got better. That’s the person who can teach all of us something. That’s the person to keep your eyes on. That’s the person to stand near in the workout and feed off their energy — because that person is going somewhere we all want to go.”

Workout 2011.01.26
70’s Big Total 55 reps: 27 Squats @225 0 Bench Press @225 (15@135) 28 Deadlifts @225 5 reps better than on June 21. I won’t be able to walk for a while. Squats felt okay considering I could barely squat 275 for doubles yesterday. Deadlifts felt great until about 25 reps. The back of neck and head started to light up like it was on fire. It’s the most excruciating...

Strength training makes women smarter. →
“A year later, the women who did strength training had improved their performance on tests of so-called executive function by 10.9 percent to 12.6 percent, while those assigned to balance and toning exercises experienced a slight deterioration — 0.5 percent.”
I always suspected “toning” exercises were not only gay but made you stupider as well.

Within this haze of pleasure and pain, there’s knowledge and power, self-discipline and self-reliance. If you do it long enough, Bob, there’s even enlightenment. Workout 2011.01.23
3 rounds for time of: 10 Deadlifts, 275lbs 50 Double Unders
6:09
I believe that I should be able to do this entirely unbroken and in under 3 minutes. However, the reality is that it was broken and over 6 minutes. Sad. It is a great workout though for precisely that reason. The potential to be able to do this unbroken is there. It’s definitely something to aspire to.

“That eureka thing happens, and to me and you, it’s amazing, impossible,” he says. “To them it was automatic, almost easy. It’s a cliché, but that’s really what greatness is: making the impossible look easy. And the strange thing is, everyone has that greatness. My job is to make my guys see it, feel it, touch it, and — knock on wood — maintain it.”
